Let's go back to the beginning: people to be able to come in an orderly and safe way. What do states do to make that possible?

Europe has become a fortress – one that is not working. In its obsession with imposing obstacles, there is a striking case that illustrates just how far policies can go in violating human rights and endangering people's safety: ministers falsifying data, a human rights court acting against human rights and a coordinated scheme among countries to deny two migrants a fundamental right.

N.D. and N.T. are two men from Mali and Côte d'Ivoire who independently arrived in Morocco, fleeing instability and insecurity in their home countries.
Both attempted to cross the Melilla border fence on 13 August 2014, along with a group of around 600 migrants, seeking protection and better living conditions in Europe
